Timpson Police force remains unchanged after city council meeting

The City of Timpson’s five-member police department will remain intact and will not go through a reduction in force, at this time after their meeting to consider possible cuts last night.

Mayor Debra Smith and the council conveyed to the room-full, mostly supporters of keeping the force as is, that the city was working with a deficit budget and cuts were imminent.

After wrestling with budget numbers, hearing public input from business owners and others, and meeting in executive session, the council returned to open session with Councilman Kyle Allen making a motion to keep the police force at 5 officers. However, the motion died due to lack of a second. The Timpson Police Department’s make-up is unchanged for now.

The council will likely consider the possible RIF at a future meeting.
