A Center man has been arrested by Polk County authorities after the ambulance he stole in Nacogdoches was stopped on U.S. Hwy. 59 early Sunday morning.

Reports say that 55-year old Derwin Wayne Armstrong took the vehicle from Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital around 3:30 a.m. Sunday and raced southward toward Houston before he was stopped about a half-hour later in Seven Oaks in Polk County with the use of roadway spikes.

Armstrong was booked for Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle.

He was first spotted in Diboll going at high rate of speed with no emergency lights on. Armstrong was taken into custody without incident.
