A mural depicting the history of Nacogdoches has been sparred destruction by the Texas Department of Transportation.

The mural on the side of the Russian Rivers Apartments on Austin Street in Nacogdoches will be left as is, as TxDOT announced the widening project will go with a north alignment alternative. T

he owner of the apartment complex said community support made the difference. Traffic congestion has been an issue for many that travel the street.

The expansion project on Austin Street is expected to open bids in 2017.
