In sub-varsity football last night, the Center Roughrider JV/9^th grade came away with a 16-13 win over Texarkana Pleasant Grove; the 8^th grade Riders came up short, 36-6; and the 7A Riders lost to Pleasant Grove, 38-30.

 

Tonight's high school football action has the Center Roughriders at 1-2 Texarkana Pleasant Grove, as the Riders are looking for their first district win. We'll have the game on KDET online and on 92.5 KXXE.

 

Big game in Shelbyville as the undefeated Dragons host the 2-1 San Augustine Wolves in our Shelby County Game of the Week on Q-100 KQBB. The winner has the upper hand for the district championship!

 

Also, 1-2 Joaquin goes to 0-3 Cushing tonight. If Joaquin wins their final two games, tonight, and at home next week versus Beckville, and Shelbyville beats San Augustine, the Rams are in the playoffs.  If San Augustine wins their final two games they're in. West Sabine is 2-1, and also in the mix trying to get in. Only three teams make post-season.

 

In a battle of two teams with 2-1 records is Timpson at Maud, with the winner pretty well assured the playoffs. The loser will likely fight it out with 2-1 Overton for third place. Overton will be in Tenaha Saturday afternoon for the Tigers’ homecoming at 4 p.m. The 3-0 Tigers can clinch the district championship with a win. Center Broadcasting will have the Overton-Tenaha game on Q-100 KQBB.

The SFA Football Lumberjacks are ranked No. 24 in the Sports Network Football poll and they're headed to NRG Stadium in Houston Saturday for their annual "Battle of the Pineywoods" with Sam Houston State. Kick-off is 3 p.m.

 

The Center High School tennis team is playing in the regional tournament in Willis today and Saturday.

 

The Roughriders Cross Country team will be in Humble today and Saturday for the regional meet.

 

The Center Lady Rider Varsity Volleyball team will play a Bi-District Championship game at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3 in Carthage.

 

The first day of the General Season for White-Tail Deer hunting in East Texas is tomorrow, Nov. 1, with the season to run through Jan. 4. The archery deer hunting season will come to a close at night-fall Friday. The East Texas deer population number according to Texas Parks and Wildlife 2013 were around 240,000, or about 18 deer per 1,000 acres. Experts are saying with the "rut" expected to be underway a little earlier, that "trophy" buck may be in your cross-hairs the opening weekend.
