Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office is saying a fire in the Carrizo Creek area on FM 1878 was an apparent attempted murder-suicide around 8 a.m. Monday morning.
Sheriff Jason Bridges says a woman’s body with a gunshot wound to her chest was found in the two-story home by firefighters, and her bedridden common-law husband was able to be rescued.
Sheriff Bridges says 61-year old Margi Lynn Goff was pronounced dead at the scene of an apparent self-inflicted, close-contact wound in her chest. A gun was found near her body.
Firefighters rescued 65-year old Hal David Parris, a stroke victim from a medical bed.
Parris confirmed to authorities that Goff set the fire.
The incident continues under investigation, with an autopsy ordered on Goff.
