Local Sports Round up 10/27/14; district football standings updated

Last Friday night’s football scores had Atlanta over Center, 56-13, Shelbyville beats Beckville, 60-7 with Texas High School Football legend, G.A. Moore in attendance, Tenaha over Timpson, 57-25, Joaquin wins the shoot-out with San Augustine, 54-44, as both teams combined for over 800 yards of offense, Garrison loses to Crockett, 45-14, and St. Mary’s over Logansport, 35-12. Also, Carthage 55, Brownsboro 14, West Sabine over Cushing, 38-16, Deweyville beats Hemphill, 38-24, Nacogdoches over Lindale, 42-25, and Ennis defeats Lufkin, 55-48. 

 

The Center Roughriders are at the bottom of the Dist. 6-4A, Div. II standings at 0-3 after their loss to Atlanta. Gladewater beat Pleasant Grove, 35-14, and is alone in first at 3-0, meanwhile, Tatum defeated Spring Hill 45-28. Atlanta and Tatum are 2-1, Pleasant Grove and Spring Hill are 1-2. The Riders must win Friday night at Pleasant Grove to have a chance at the fourth play-off spot.

 

In Dist. 10-2A, Div. I, Shelbyville is 7-0 on the season, and alone in first-place atop the district at 3-0, San Augustine and West Sabine are 2-1, and Joaquin and Beckville are 1-2. Cushing is 0-3.

 

This week San Augustine goes to Shelbyville, with the district championship on the line, Joaquin at Cushing and West Sabine at Beckville.

 

Dist. 11-2A, Div. II has Tenaha on top at 3-0, with a three-way tie for second between Maud, Timpson and Overton at 2-1. Mount Enterprise and Fruitvale are 0-3.

 

This week’s games have Timpson at Maud, Mount Enterprise at Fruitvale and Overton will be in Tenaha Saturday for the Tigers’ homecoming.

 

Meanwhile, in Dist. 11-3A, Div. II, there’s a three-way tie for the lead with Corrigan-Camden, Garrison and Newton at 2-1, Crockett and Deweyville are 1-2 and Hemphill is 0-3.

 

This week Newton goes to Garrison, Corrigan-Camden at Deweyville and Crockett at Hemphill.

 

Also this week, Logansport goes to Northwood Lena.

 

The SFA Lumberjacks defeat No. 8 ranked Southeastern Louisiana 27-17 Saturday at Homer Bryce Stadium. It was homecoming for SFA, as they meet rival Sam Houston Saturday at NRG Stadium in Houston in the Battle of the Pineywoods.

 

The Shelbyville Dragons and Lady Dragons Junior High Cross Country Teams pulled off a sweep of the championship at the District 22 Cross Country Meet last Wednesday at Lake Naconiche. The Junior High Dragon Boys team made school history by being the first Boys Cross Country Team at any level to win a District Championship. And with the Girls also winning the District Title, this is the first time in Shelbyville Junior High history that the Dragons and Lady Dragons have swept the championships.

 

Timpson Jr. High Cross Country participant Sadie Ramsey took the girls’ district championship with a time of 10:29. She was more than 20 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Timpson had 73 from high school through junior high taking part.

 

Girls’ volleyball action Tuesday, it’s the final game of the season for the Lady Riders as they have senior night hosting Diboll starting at 5 p.m., and the Timpson Lady Bears go to Carlisle to conclude their season.
