San Augustine's Sassafras Festival gets underway with BBQ cook-off today, music show tonight, full-lineup of activities planned for Saturday

The 24th San Augustine Sassafras Festival is tomorrow. There's no admission to the event, which will feature arts, craft and food vendors, plus entertainment and contest for all ages, all on the downtown San Augustine Courthouse Square. The festival’s opening ceremony will kick things off at 9 a.m. There will be an Alzheimer’s Walk at 10 a.m., a classic car show, an art exhibit, and a “Kid’s Alley”. A reunion of San Augustine High School graduates will take place throughout the day. There's a number of contest such as hotdog eating, photography, a pet contest and a Halloween costume contest. Sassafras activities actually get underway today with the Ray Estes’ BBQ Cook-off. For information or to sign up for a contest, call 936-275-3610.

 

Ayish (Eye-ish) Hall’s Sassafras Festival Fall Music Show will be held at 7 p.m., tonight. There will be family friendly fun Country Music Entertainment featuring The Sugar Moons, which include Sarah Griffin Humphries, Will Lewis, Sam Marks, Shane Mathews and Cody Wood. Special guests include Jimmy Webb and Missy & Brian Monroe, and The Texas Tumbleweed. Tickets are $6 at the door with concessions available. Ayish Hall is located at 825 W. Columbia in San Augustine.
