Local Sports Roundup--10/23/14; CHS Tennis, Tenaha Cross Country advance

We told you yesterday the Center Roughrider Tennis Team took the area championship. We now have some more information to share.

 

The CHS Varsity Tennis Team on Monday faced Gladewater and swept the Bears 10-0. This took the Riders to the next round facing Kilgore. In this round, the Riders won 10-1 with the only loss being in a grueling 3 set match against the 2014 Spring State Finalists in Boys Doubles. On Tuesday, the Riders took on Van for the Area Championship. Facing some intense matches all morning, the Riders earned the victory 10-4. The tennis team will head to the Regional Tournament in Willis next Friday and Saturday.

 

The Tenaha Tiger Boys Cross Country Team made history today by
becoming the first Tenaha Cross Country Team to qualify for the Regional Cross Country meet in Humble in two weeks.  The Tigers finished 2nd overall and their qualification marks the first time in this century at least the Tenaha will be represented at the Regional meet.  In qualifying, the Tigers outpaced Shelbyville to earn the berth in regionals. Crystal McDonald also qualified as a Girls' Individual runner by finishing 10th. 

 

Sub-varsity football action today includes:

 

The Center Freshmen/JV at Atlanta for a 5 p.m. start, and the Center Jr. High teams vs. Atlanta at Roughrider Stadium starting at 4:30 p.m.

 

The Shelbyville Jr. High and JV at Beckville starting at 5 p.m.

 

The Timpson Jr. High at Tenaha Jr. High @ 5:30 p.m.

 

The San Augustine Jr. High and JV will be at Joaquin beginning at 5 p.m.

 

The Garrison Jr. High and JV host Crockett at 4:30 p.m.

 

 

Friday night’s high school football scheduled has the Center Roughriders at home for homecoming game against the Atlanta Rabbits. We'll have the game on KDET online at on 92.5 KXXE. The Shelbyville Dragons are home to play Beckville in the Shelby County Game of the Week on Q-100 KQBB. Both broadcasts can also be heard on our website at cbc-radio.com. In other games, the Tenaha Tigers go to the Timpson Bears; the Joaquin Rams are in San Augustine to play the Wolves; the Garrison Bulldogs go to Crockett; and St. Mary’s visits Logansport.

 

All Shelbyville High School graduates have a special invitation to attend the Shelbyville School wide reunion at the Shelbyville ISD Cafeteria this Saturday. The event will honor the State Championship Basketball Teams of 1982 & 1984 and also the State Championship Baseball Team of 1988. This is being held in conjunction with the annual reunion hosted by the Shelbyville School Alumni. Doors open at 4 p.m. with a brisket meal served at 6:30 p.m. Costs is $10 per person.
