Three Shelby County law enforcement officers were honored last week by the Department of Public Safety in Austin for their heroic efforts in a dangerous situation.
DPS Trooper Dustin Ramos received a Director’s Citation for his actions during a dangerous incident; Trooper Zachary Mills received a Purple Heart for his personal sacrifice and efforts to apprehend a dangerous suspect; and Center Police Sgt. Duane Gordon received the Director’s Award for his efforts to rescue an injured officer and apprehend a dangerous suspect.
All three were involved in the incident in May south of Shelbyville during the apprehension of a suspect under the influence of PCP, who fled a scene.
After striking Trooper Mills, Trooper Ramos administered first aid on Mills until EMS arrived.
