Funeral Notices: 10/20/14

Watson & Sons Funeral Home announces service longtime Center business man, community, civic and church leader, 92-year old W.I. Davis, Jr. of Center. He passed away Friday at his home. Service will be held at 2 p.m. this afternoon at First United Methodist Church in Center, with burial at Oaklawn Memorial Park. W.I. Davis, Jr. was a 1939 graduate of Center High School, for over 30 years was the Mobil Oil Company consignee, and managed a cattle operation and several large tree farms. He also served as a member of the Farmers State Bank Board of Directors for 57 years. Among W.I. Davis, Jr’s. survivors is his wife, Inez Neilson Davis of Center; son and daughter-in-law, Neilson and Diana Ashby Davis of Center; and daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Davis Griffin and Guy Griffin of Center. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, Texas or First United Methodist Church of Center.

 

Watson & Sons Funeral Home announces service for 90-year old Nolen Cogswell of Joaquin. He passed away Saturday at his residence. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Watson & Sons. Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Watson & Sons Chapel, with interment at Oaklawn Memorial Park. He was a 1942 graduate of Center High School, he and his wife, Ellen operated a grocery store in Joaquin for many years, and he was a former Post Master in the Joaquin Post Office. Among Nolen Cogswell’s survivors is his wife, Ellen Cogswell of Joaquin; children, Doug Cogswell of Joaquin, Phyllis Franks of Conroe, Mary Ellen Lowe and husband Buren of Joaquin, and Lori Willey and husband, Pat of Magnolia; Brothers and Sisters-in-law, James Henry Cogswell and wife, Judy of Reserve, Louisiana and Pat Cogswell and wife, Mary of Dickinson. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of East Texas in Nacogdoches.

 

Mangum Funeral Home announces the death of 73-year old Thelma Hooter of Shelbyville. She passed away last Thursday in Beaumont. Her wishes were to be cremated and no service is planned. Among Thelma Hooter’s survivors is her husband, Marvin Hooter of Shelbyville.
