A Center man escaped serious injury when he reportedly fell asleep, collided with a guardrail and flipped his pickup on Hwy. 7 West of Center Thursday morning. It's reported that 18-year old Gaije (Gauge) Ranes was traveling east around 6 a.m., crossed the roadway, struck a guardrail and flipped his Toyota Tundra. The one-vehicle accident occurred just west of FM 711. Ranes was taken by ACE EMS to a Nacogdoches hospital for treatment of injuries. He said to be OK. Ranes stated on his Facebook page he flipped his truck a couple of times when he fell asleep on the way to work.

A San Augustine woman walked away from an accident just before eleven Thursday morning when she failed to control her speed in a curve on Hwy. 87, just south of Loop 500 in Center. DPS Trooper Daniel Dellenger says that 51-year old Sandra Self was northbound in a Volkswagen Passat when she lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, struck a culvert, went airborne, rolled, and came to rest on its roof. Self was taken by ACE EMS to CHI St. Luke’s in San Augustine to be checked out. Trooper Dellenger cited her for unsafe speed.
