Another stormy Monday leaves behind power outages & good rains

Another stormy Monday for the second week as a cold front pushed through the area.

Rain, gusty winds and lightning were the main weather makers. Temperatures also cooled from 76 early Monday to the lows 60s in less than an hour with passage of the system. The rains were good, as Jim Forbes had recorded over two inches in as many hours.

DETEC Communications Specialist Brittney Johnson says high winds led to a majority of their electrical outages. Some 2000 members were out of service during the peak of the storms, with the majority in Shelby and Nacogdoches County.

As of lunch, DETEC had some 750 members still out, with that number down to 10 members by 3:30 p.m.

Ms. Johnson said DETEC is thankful to the membership for their patience while crews battled the elements to restore power as quickly as possible.

SWEPCO also had an outage in Center just before lunch, as some 500 customers were affected, including most of the downtown area. The power was restored in less than an hour.

The weather has made a rebound with sunny and mild days the rule for the remainder of the work week into the weekend.
