Local Sports Roundup 10/14/14; Don Wall's Coaches Show airs tonight at 7 p.m. on Q100 KQBB

It’s Tuesday and Don Wall’s Shelby County Coaches’ Show airs tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. on Q-100 KQBB and online at cbc-radio.com.

 

The Center Varsity Boys Cross Country team traveled to Lufkin on Saturday, October 11th to participate in the Lufkin Invitational. They placed 1st overall heading into District competition set for next Monday, October 20th in Carthage.

 

The AP Texas High School Football Rankings are out for Week 7 and in Class 2A, the Tenaha Tigers remain at No. 14, but absent are the Shelbyville Dragons, who were 15th a week ago, despite a big win over Joaquin last Friday. Alto is No. 8 and Refugio is still No. 1. In Class 3A, Cisco remains the top team, Corrigan-Camden is still No. 4, Kirbyville 6th, Waskom 9th, and is 15th. As for 4A, Navasota is still holding onto No. 1, with Gilmer at No. 3, Center’s district opponents Atlanta and Gladewater at No. 9 & 10 respectively. Aledo is the top team in 5A, John Tyler 5th, and Lufkin is No. 14. Allen is still No. 1 in Class 6A.

 

Week 2 of district play for local high school football teams Friday night, as the Center Roughriders go to Tatum, Shelbyville at Cushing, Fruitvale at Tenaha, West Sabine at Joaquin for the Rams’ homecoming, Timpson at Overton, San Augustine at Beckville, Deweyville at Garrison for the Bulldogs’ homecoming, and Logansport at Block.

 

In sub-varsity football Thursday, the Center Roughrider 7/8th A&B will be in Tatum starting at 4:30 p.m., while the Rider 9th/JV will be home to play Tatum starting at 5 p.m. at Roughrider Stadium.

 

The Shelbyville Dragon Jr. High 8th grade will be home to play Cushing at 5 p.m., while the JV Dragons are home to play Cushing at 7 p.m.

 

The Joaquin Ram Jr. High and JV go to West Sabine starting at 5 p.m.

 

The Timpson Jr. High is home to play Overton with a 5:30 p.m. start.

 

Beckville meanwhile will be in San Augustine to play the Jr. High and JV Wolves on Thursday.

 

The Tenaha Tiger sub varsity teams will return to action this Thursday. The Junior High team will travel to Fruitvale while the Tiger JV will host the Henderson HS 9th grade team in Tiger Stadium at 5:30 PM. 

 

Volleyball action today, the Center Lady Riders are home to play Jasper starting at 5 p.m., and the Timpson Lady Bears go to Gary.
