August Sales Tax revenues for Shelby County see little change in past year

Texas State Comptroller Susan Combs released monthly sales tax revenues for August on Wednesday, and overall Shelby County did not see much of an increase compared to the same time a year ago.

 

Of the five municipalities in the county that levy a sales tax, the total checks for August are up only $120 from 2013. Sales tax revenues for August were $286,000.

 

The City of Center saw an almost 7 percent dip, as the August sales tax revenue is $228,000, and year-to-date, is down some 2 percent.

 

The City of Tenaha had a whopping 260 percent increase in August 2014 in comparison to a year ago, as their check went from $5,000 to over $18,000. Tenaha is also up 16 percent year-to-date.

 

Huxley and Joaquin also showed nice sales tax gains in a year, as Huxley went up almost 36 percent and Joaquin to 17 percent in August.

 

Timpson’s check was almost identical to the one received in August 2013, and down 10 percent for the year.

 

San Augustine County’s August checks are up overall 92 percent, with San Augustine’s check this period $35,000, which is a healthy 102 percent increase in a year.

 

Broaddus is up 10.5 percent compared to August 2013.
