Three Timpson residents have been arrested and charged with attempting to smuggle a prohibited substance into the Nacogdoches County Jail.

In a press release from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office, 60-year old Eva Lewis and 35-year old Misti Hogue were booked on upgraded charges of engaging in organized criminal activity, a second-degree felony.

A jail trustee, 34-David Lewis, the son of Eva Lewis, was allegedly found with tobacco products on his person after returning from a work detail. Lewis has also been charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.

It’s reported when investigators did a search of the area where the jail trustees had been working, the Nacogdoches Expo Center, they found a cell phone, marijuana, pills and tobacco hidden on the ground beside a shed.

David Lewis stated that he was directly responsible for setting up the delivery of the contraband.

Eva Lewis and Hogue were identified through video surveillance footage at the expo center.

Eva Lewis was arrested at the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday, and Hogue was arrested in Timpson by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
