Local Sports Roundup 10/10/14; Rider sub-varsity results, Week 6 sees start of district play for teams

In Center Roughrider sub-varsity football last night, the Center Freshmen/JV combined for a 45-12 win over Spring Hill. Meanwhile, the Rider 7B won 3 scores to none, 8B had a scoreless tie, 0-0, the 7A Riders take a 20-10 win, and the 8A is shutout by Spring Hill, 38-0.

 

It's the start of the second tonight, and to this point, the most important season of the high school football schedule as all local teams will be involved in district play. The 2-2 Center Roughriders will head to Longview to kick-off Dist. 6 4-A, Div. II against Spring Hill. You can catch the broadcast on KDET online and on 92.5 KXXE beginning with the stadium pre-game at 7 p.m. as Rob Payne, Chris Watlington and the Rider Radio team bring you the action. In our Shelby County Game of the Week it's the Dist. 10-2A, Div. I opener as the 3-2 Joaquin Rams go to the 4-0 Shelbyville Dragons. Don Wall has the play-by-play on Q-100, KQBB. Also tonight, the 3-1 Tenaha Tigers go to 2-3 Maude, and the 0-4 Timpson Bears head to 3-2 Mt. Enterprise in Dist. 11-2A, Div. II play, the 2-2 San Augustine Wolves travel down to 3-1 West Sabine in a Dist. 10-2A, Div. 1 game, and the 2-1 Garrison Bulldogs open District 11-3A, Div. II at 3-2 Hemphill. Meanwhile, LaSalle will be in Logansport.

 

In other area games, Corsicana at Nacogdoches, Lufkin at John Tyler, Henderson plays Carthage, Cushing at Beckville, Longview against Marshall, Alto at Grapeland and its Tatum at Gladewater.

 

The 3-2, 0-1 SFA Lumberjacks are on the road Saturday in Thibodeaux, Louisiana to play winless Nicholls State in Southland Conference play.

 

In volleyball, the Lady Riders will host Huntington Saturday, and the Timpson Lady Bears are open today.
