Day 2 of East Texas Poultry Festival opens at 10 a.m.; Gospel Night on the Frances Oates' Stage

The 38th East Texas Poultry Festival heads into Day 2 today with a calmer and more festive weather forecast. There’s entertainment on the Frances Oates’ stage, plus plenty of food and arts & crafts. Vendor booths open up at 10 a.m. this morning. It’s also Gospel Night this evening starting at 5:30 p.m. with a number of local vocalist and groups to perform.

 

There are two ongoing displays taking place through Saturday. The Quilt Show is from 10 to 3 at the Historic Courthouse, with the Photography Show at Vision Source, next to the Rio Theatre from 10 to 5.

 

On the Frances Oates Stage today will be the Shelbyville Fourth Grade Classes with their always popular “Flashback to the ‘50s” at 10:30 a.m., followed by Danny Paul, Sally and Friends – Homegrown & Homemade at noon.

 

The carnival will open at 1 p.m. with all-u-can ride armbands for $18 until 4 p.m. The carnival will re-open from 5 to 11 p.m.

 

The Center High School Theatre class will have a presentation at 4 p.m.

 

The Gospel Night line-up at 5:30 p.m. includes: Maureen Kennon, followed by the Strong Triumph Youth, David Wheeler, The Thompson Boys at 7 p.m., Center First United Pentecostal Church Praise Team at 7:30 p.m., the First Christian Church Praise Band at 8 p.m. followed by Chassity Davis, and New Life Praise Team at 9 p.m.

The winners of the Poultry Festival Quilt Show were announced yesterday and taking Best of Show was Suzanne Scull and the Chamber Award went to Ellen Manning. All show quilts are on display in the Historic Shelby County Courthouse today and Saturday from 10-3.

 

Also, winners of the Photography Show were released Thursday. Taking Adult Best in Show was Janet Hughes of Carthage, with Lance Hollway of Center the Children’s Best of Show. People’s Choice voting continues until 5 p.m. today at Vision Source.

Saturday's activities begin with the CASA 5K Fun Run/Walk. Vendor booths open at 10 a.m., and the 4-H & FFA Broiler Show Sift at 10 a.m. The carnival opens at noon, with various entertainers throughout the afternoon. The “Strut, Cluck and Crow” Chicken Clucking Contest is set for 5 p.m., Lion’s Club Jeep Drawing at 5:45, presentation of the Mooseberg Awards at 6:40 p.m., the Jon, Macy & Misty Bush Foundation Rifle Drawing at 6:45 p.m., and the 4-H & FFA Broiler Show Auction sponsored by Tyson Foods at 7 p.m. The poultry festival closes out with Johnson’s Lost Crowes to play.

 

Center ISD will have an early release at 12 noon today. PreK parent pick-up is 11:40 a.m., with Kindergarten pick-up at 11:50 a.m.
