An off-duty Panola County deputy constable died from injuries received in a wreck Wednesday morning on Hwy. 79 South between Carthage and Henderson near Fairplay.

Panola County officials say 63-year old Byron McMillen passed away at ETMC in Carthage.

McMillen is said to have retired from the Panola County Sheriff’s Office in 2012 before beginning his job as a deputy constable for Brian Murff.

McMillen was also a part-time instructor at the East Texas Police Academy.
