Local Sports Round up 9/25/14; Sub-varsity football tonight; college rodeo action Friday & Saturday in Carthage

In sub-varsity football tonight,

 

The Center Middle School Riders will go to Hardin-Jefferson for a 5 p.m. start, while the Freshmen/JV Riders will be home against Hardin-Jefferson in a 5:30 p.m. kick-off.

 

The Shelbyville 7th and 8th grade will play in Queen City  starting @ 5 p.m. Meanwhile, the JV Dragons will play Hemphill @ 5 p.m. in Shelbyville.

 

The Tenaha Jr. High and JV Tigers will be in Alto tonight. Jr. High starts at 5 p.m., followed by the JV at 7:30 p.m.

 

The Joaquin Jr. High & JV Rams will go to Groveton starting at 5 p.m.

 

The Timpson Jr. High will be at Lovelady in a 5:30 p.m. start.

 

San Augustine Jr. High & JV teams will be at Hemphill this evening.

 

The Center Varsity Tennis team will be in Kilgore at 9 a.m. Saturday and at Spring Hill at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

 

This Friday night's varsity football has the Center Roughriders heading to Sour Lake to play Hardin-Jefferson. Center Broadcasting has the action on KDET online at cbc-radio.com and on 92.5 KXXE.

 

It's homecoming in Shelbyville as the Dragons play Queen City in our Shelby County Game of the Week on Q-100 KQBB.

 

In other local games, it's a battle of unbeatens as Alto will be in Tenaha; Groveton will be at Joaquin; Timpson has homecoming as they'll take on Lovelady; it's also homecoming in San Augustine as the Wolves play Hemphill; and Plain Dealing will be at Logansport for homecoming.

 

Garrison will play Marlin at 6 p.m. Saturday night in Palestine.

 

By the way, unless you already have a ticket, the Nacogdoches and Lufkin game Friday night in Nacogdoches is totally sold out.

 

In volleyball Tuesday, Bullard swept the Center Lady Riders in straight sets in their last non-district game, and the Timpson Lady Bears are 1-1 in district after beating Leverrett's Chapel, 25-15, 27-25 & 26-24. Center and Timpson are both open Friday, with the Lady Riders opening district Tuesday at Huntington, while the lady Bears are home to play Overton.

 

Some 500 of the top college cowboys and cowgirls in the country will converge on Panola County this weekend as the first rodeo of the 10 rodeo circuit for the Southern Region is held. The rodeo will take place at the Panola County Cattleman’s Arena on Hwy. 79 north of Carthage. Performance times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with slack each day at noon. Tickets are available at the gate. Panola College is hosting the event, with 14 teams from junior colleges and four-year universities throughout the region taking part. The Rodeo is sponsored by Devon Energy.
