Shelby County unemployment dips slightly for August, improvement shown in past year

The Texas Workforce Commission released the August unemployment rates for the state Friday and Shelby County saw a slight dip from the previous month to 5.8 percent in August, compared to 5.9 percent in July.

 

San Augustine County’s August rate was 8.5 percent, up slightly from 8.2 in July.

 

Both Shelby and San Augustine Counties were substantial down from August of last year when Shelby County’s unemployment was 7.2 percent, and 10 percent for San Augustine.

 

The statewide rate was 5.3, up from 5.1 percent in July.

 

In neighboring counties, Sabine County’s August unemployment is 11.4 percent; Nacogdoches, 5.9; Angelina, 5.4; and Panola County’s rate was 4.2 percent.
