Local Sports Round up 9/22/14; Clean sweep for Shelby County teams Friday night

It was a good night for local high school football, weather-wise and on the field, as all Shelby County teams notched victories in Week 4.

 

The Center Roughriders improve to 2-1 with a 26-15 win over Jasper; the Joaquin Rams get their first win with a 30-28 decision against Cayuga; in a battle of two state-ranked unbeaten, the Tenaha Tigers come away with a 26-15 win over White Oak, pushing Tenaha’s record to 3-0; and the Shelbyville Dragons remain unbeaten at 3-0 with a 47-0 shut out of Colmesneil. Elsewhere, the San Augustine Wolves get their first win, 38-6 over Groveton; the Garrison Bulldogs are 2-1 with a 26-21 victory over New Diana; Gladewater over Carthage, 23-13; Hemphill beats Burkeville, 50-6; and the Logansport Tigers get past Red River, 21-12.

 

This week's high school football has the Center Roughriders beginning a three-game road trip in the next four weeks, as the Riders head to Sour Lake Friday night to take on Hardin-Jefferson. It's also Center's last non-district game. Other action, it's homecoming in Shelbyville as the Dragons play Queen City; Alto comes to Tenaha; Groveton at Joaquin; Timpson has homecoming as they'll take on Lovelady; it's also homecoming in San Augustine against Hemphill; Plain Dealing will be at Logansport where it's homecoming; and Garrison will close out non-district in a Saturday night game taking on Marlin in Palestine.

 

The SFA Lumberjacks beat Weber State, 35-20.

 

Volleyball schedule this week has the Center Lady Riders at home Tuesday against Bulllard in the last non-district game. Action starts at 5 p.m. The Timpson Lady Bears will continue district as they go to Leverrett's Chapel.
