Center ISD Trustees renew legal services contract, discuss Grow-Your-Own Teacher program

The Center ISD Board of Trustees agreed to renew the contract with the firm Walsh, Anderson, Gellegos, Green and Trevino as the law firm for special education and related services for the district at their meeting last Thursday.

The board also received a rough draft of a framework to implement a Center ISD Grow-Your-Own Teacher Certification program.

Superintendent Dr. James Hockenberry said basically it’s a program where the district would cultivate and grow its own teachers. This would include high school coursework and assistance with college coursework. He said this is a concept that is being discussed and developed over a period of time, and there’s been no final decision. However, Dr. Hockenberry said it is worthy of continued discussion.

He also said that the new initiative, R3 “R to the third power” is developing the way the district had hoped, and they’re trying to raise awareness, and so far the response has been very positive.

In personnel matters, the board approved a leave of absence for Brittany Hall and BeBee Metcalf, employed Sarah Katie Martin as a substitute teacher, and approved emergency leave to Christopher Draper and Stephanie Helton.
