Sheriff warns of possible scams

Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that an unknown person or persons is calling random people in the county and stating they are an IRS agent and attempting to get money from them, and they're reportedly saying if they do not, they will be at their doorsteps within 45 minutes to collect.

Sheriff Blackwell reminds you the IRS does not operate this way.

The caller appears to have a Middle Eastern accent. Do not give this person your personal, banking or credit card information over the phone.

Also, the sheriff's department has been informed of an asphalt company calling and wanting to pave your driveway for a small fee.

Sheriff Blackwell says to be very cautious of these people, as they have in the past, taken advantage of people, especially the elderly.
