Local Sports Round up 9/11/14; Sub-varsity football teams play tonight

Sub-varsity football action tonight, has the Center Middle School and Freshmen/JV at Garrison starting at 5 p.m.; the Tenaha Jr. High and JV at Shelbyville beginning at 5 p.m.; the Timpson Middle School at Beckville at 5 p.m.; and Joaquin has an open date.

 

Tomorrow night's high school football has the Center Roughriders at home against the Garrison Bulldogs. Listen to the action on KDET online at cbc-radio.com or 92.5 KXXE. In our Shelby County Game of the Week, it's a battle of two unbeatens as the Shelbyville Dragons go to the Tenaha Tigers. We'll have the game on Q100 KQBB and online at cbc-radio.com. Elsewhere, the Timpson Bears have their home opener with Beckville, the Joaquin Rams have an open date, and the San Augustine Wolves have a Saturday afternoon game in Dallas against the Episcopal School of Dallas at 4 p.m. The Logansport Tigers have their home opener against Lakeview.

 

After making the playoffs for the first time last season, the Center Lady Rider volleyball team is looking forward to another successful season. With a veteran team returning, there are a lot of expectations. Last Tuesday the Lady Riders took on Shelbyville in their inaugural season. The team appreciates the support shown by the community. The Lady Riders will be at Elysian Fields for a 4:30 p.m. match Friday.

 

The Lady Rider Junior Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Chapel Hill Tuesday, defeating the Lady Bulldogs in two sets 25-19 and 26-24.

 

The Center High School Cross Country team competed at the Dogwood Invitational in Palestine last Saturday in their first meet of the year for both boys and girls. On the varsity, Giovani Angel placed 3rd, Arnol Escobedo 7th, Ruben Soto 10th, Daniel Chavez 19th, and Juan Ramirez 19th out of 96 runners. On the JV boys team, Brandon Renteria placed 7th, Jose Landin 11th, Isaac Rafael 12th, Arturo Hernandez 14th. Both Varsity and JV boys’ teams placed second out of 12 teams for their season opening meet. On Saturday they’ll be running at

the Elysian Fields invitational.
