Shelbyville ISD Board of Trustees to possibly revisit artificial turf idea

Looks like the Shelbyville ISD may be re-visiting the possibility of installing artificial turf at Dragon Stadium.

Dr. Ray West told me yesterday that board members and others in the community have expressed an interest in discussing the topic again.

He said the board may have the turf item on a meeting agenda within a couple of weeks.

In January of this year there was discussion, and Dr. West even had a turf representative on hand to explain more and answer questions after the initial interest.

Dr. West said the district is looking at around $770,000 to install an artificial surface at the stadium, and did add those funds are already on hand for such projects, and there would be no debt to the district.

At their meeting Monday night, the Shelbyville ISD Trustees were given a facilities update by Dr. West, who advised the new auxiliary gym should be ready for use in mid-October.
