Local Sports Round up 9/5/14; Rider Frosh-JV take win in Buna, Varsity teams take field tonight

In sub-varsity football action last night, the Center Roughriders beat Buna, 20-14.

 

High school varsity football action on tap tonight in Week 2 has the Center Roughriders in their home opener against Buna at Roughrider Stadium. The Riders are coming off a 28-20 win over Class 3A's top-ranked Div. II team Waskom, while Buna took a 14-13 win against Orangefield. Center Broadcasting will have the broadcast beginning at 7 p.m. with Rob Payne, Chris Watlington and the Roughrider Radio Team on KDET online at cbc-radio.com and on 92.5 KXXE. 

 

In the Shelby County Game of the Week, the Garrison Bulldogs go to Shelbyville to play the Dragons. Both teams had wins in the opening week. Don Wall calls the action starting with pre-game at 7:20 p.m. on Q-100 KQBB and online at cbc-radio.com.

 

The Tenaha Tigers head to Brook Hill in Bullard in a 7 p.m. kick-off ; Other area games, Timpson at Harleton, Woodville at Joaquin, Splendora at San Augustine, West Sabine at Hemphill, Lindale at Carthage, Nacogdoches at Hallsville, Tyler Lee at Lufkin and Vidor at Jasper. Logansport will kick off their season at Mansfield.

 

Tenaha ISD will release at 2:15 this afternoon in order to allow travel time to the game in Bullard.  Elementary parent pick up will begin at 2pm.  By the way, admission to tonight's game is $7 adults, $5 children.

 

Also, due to Timpson's game in Harleton, student pickup in Timpson will begin at 2:45 p.m. today, with busses running about 15 minutes earlier.

 

The SFA Lumberjacks have their home opener at 6 p.m. Saturday against Incarnate Word at Home Bryce Stadium.

 

The Center Lady Rider volleyball team will be at Leverett’s Chapel at 4:30 p.m. today for a match.

 

Center varsity tennis will be in Jacksonville Saturday. They’ll be taking on Nacogdoches at 9 a.m., and Jacksonville at 1 p.m.
