Local Sports Round up 8/29/14; High School Football scheduled tonight

Tonight's high school football schedule: Center at Waskom; Tenaha at Joaquin; Shelbyville at Linden-Kildare; Timpson at Tyler All Saints; San Augustine at Garrison; and Logansport in the DeSoto Parish Jamboree in Mansfield. Also, Carthage at Hallsville; Kilgore at Nacogdoches; and Longview at Lufkin, as well as other games.

 

Center Broadcasting will have the Center vs. Waskom game on KDET online at cbc-radio.com starting with pre-game at 7 p.m., and the Tenaha vs. Joaquin game on Q100, KQBB, and online at cbc-radio.com with pre-game at 7:20 p.m.

 

The SFA Lumberjacks will open their football season Saturday night in Manhattan, Kansas against #20 Kansas State. Kick-off is 6:10 p.m.

 

The East Texas Colts, a semi-pro football team that’s headquartered in Center will be having their final tryouts at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Center High School practice field behind Roughrider Stadium. You must be at least 18 years of age, just bring your cleats, shorts, gloves, etc. There’s a $25 non-refundable try-out fee. The Center Youth Football League will continue with have its final sign-up Saturday, Aug. 30th from 10:00am-1:00p. m. at the Center Middle School Cafeteria. Be sure and bring a copy of your child's birth certificate. Sign up fees are $50 for flag and $80 for tackle. Ages 5-12 are allowed to play.

 

Shelbyville Youth Football League will have their final football sign up from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday at the Shelbyville Youth Baseball fields.

Sign ups for Joaquin Youth Football and Cheer will be Saturday, Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Haslam. The league is for Kindergarten thru 6th Grade, and a child must be 5 by Sept. 1, 2014. A copy of the child's birth certificate is needed at time of sign-up.

 

The National Wild Turkey Federation will be hosting its annual adult-child dove hunt and JAKES event, Sunday, Sept. 7 starting at 2:30 p.m. in the Sabine National Forest near Shelbyville. Only 20 applicants will be accepted. The hunt is for youth, 8 to 17 years of age, and child must have taken a State Hunters Education, and be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older who possesses a valid State Hunting License. The Dove hunting season opens up Monday in the North and Central Zones in Texas, and will continue until Oct. 20. There will also be a dove season from Dec. 19 - Jan. 7, 2015.
