Flight for Life air rapid transport now flying in Shelby County

A third rapid transport medical helicopter company began service in Shelby County Wednesday when Trinity Mother Frances' Flight for Life was introduced to emergency personnel and the media at Center Municipal Airport.

Flight for Life has three units that can be on the scene here within 20 to 30 minutes from their bases at the Gregg County Airport, Palestine and even Winnsboro.

Flight Nurse Brandon Means says the company saw where there was a need for additional medical rapid transport. He noted with Shelby County being a distance from a Level 1 trauma facility, Flight for Life's service will enhance availability in times of need.

Means added Trinity Mother Frances' Flight for Life air units are staffed with double board certified medics, and will fly in the rain and even at night, as very well trained pilots wear night-vision goggles.

ACE EMS' Jessie Griffith tells us having the additional helicopter transport in Shelby County will definitely assist when there’s trauma with multiple critical injuries.
