Center Economic Development Corp. Board to possibly approve Workforce Training and Development Assistance Program

The City of Center Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors will meet at 12 noon Wednesday and among the items for discussion and approval will be the creation of a Workforce Training and Development Assistance Program. The City Council approved a resolution at last night's meeting to allow for such program. City Manager Chad Nehring said the City of Center currently does not have a workforce development policy, and this program would be an investment that could assist with business attraction or retention programs. He added these type programs also assist in the scoring or ranking of applications for state funding opportunities. Nehring said this type of training program would be used in certain circumstances in lieu of companies needing or qualifying for more significant development assistance or traditional tax incentives. Nehring added Tyson Foods is seeking an application to the Texas Enterprise Zone program for assistance with a large maintenance project and will receive additional points if such a program is in place.
