Shelby County Commissioners' Court to hold second Public Meeting today for proposed tax rate

Shelby County Commissioners' Court will conduct the second of two-required public hearings concerning the Fiscal Year 2014-15 Tax Rate when they meet at 9:30 this morning. Two hearing are required since the "effective tax rate" will be increasing. The effective tax rate is the total tax rate needed to raise the same amount of property tax revenue for Shelby County from the same properties in both the 2013 and the 2014 tax year. There is no increase in the "proposed tax rate" for FY 2014-15 in Shelby County. Commissioners are expected to act on the new Budget and Tax Rate for the new Fiscal Year when they meet Sept. 8.

After this morning's public hearing, a special meeting of the commissioners' court will be held at 9:45 a.m. when citizen Nayeli Gonzalez to address the court in regards to a school bus turn-around on CR 1043 & CR 1044. Ms. Gonzalez presentation was rescheduled from the last meeting due to her commissioner, Pct. 1's Roscoe McSwain not being present.
