Timpson City Council seeks bids for garbage collection

The Timpson City Council decided at their meeting Tuesday to put out for bids on the city’s garbage service.

City Secretary Barbara Hunt says instead of renewing the contract with Pineywoods Sanitation at this time, it was voted on to advertise for bids through Sept. 15.

Timpson Council has also decided to go with the Texas Municipal League as the city’s health insurance carrier. Mayor Debra Smith has said TML’s rate will save the city $24,000 annually rather than staying with Blue Cross-Blue Shield.

In other business, the mowing contract for Woodlawn Cemetery with Piney Woods Lawn Care (Ricky Askins) was renewed at $1,375 a month; and Angelina Excavating was awarded the bid for work on the streets surrounding B&B Foods. The monies for the project came through IKE 2.2 Grant money.

No action on the Fiscal Year 2014-15 Budget was taken.
