Nov. 4 school board, city council election filing ends, 8 vying for CISD Trustee positions

There was a last-minute charge to the filing window yesterday for several individuals interested in running for city and school board races this fall as the deadline came to a close.

 

The Center ISD Board race will be an 8 candidate field in November, vying for four positions. All four incumbents filed, including Dr. Dixon Golden, Ortega Cartwright, Jim Sawyer and Deborah Chadwick, in addition to challengers, James Greer, John Henry Holloway, Traci Willoughby and Daphne LaRock.

 

In the city of Center, there will be one contested position, as Dist. 2 incumbent Councilman Jerry Lathan is challenged by Jud Mathews. Incumbents at-large council members Leigh Porterfield and Jim Forbes, as well as Dist. 4 Councilman Charles Rushing are un-opposed.

 

In the city of San Augustine, all four incumbents filed, and all four have opposition. For Alderman #1, Incumbent Valencia Price and Alana Borders; #2, Incumbent Pamela Teel and James “Jim” Blackwell; #3, Incumbent Mike Malone and Stacy “Jack” Watts; #4, Incumbent Joe Verhalen and Rodney Litton; and Alderman #5, Incumbent Claudia Cabriales, Dan Fussell and John Alexander.

 

For the San Augustine ISD Trustee election, Position #3 incumbent Ryan Garcia, James “Jim” Blackwell and Patricia McClure; Position #4 incumbent Edwin Henly, Henry Lee Garner and David Garner; Position #5 incumbent Orvin Garrett, Dennis Barnes and Loretta Bedford; and for Position #6 incumbent Charles Donald Boyett and Steven Standley.

 

There will be no election in the Excelsior ISD, as all four incumbents were un-opposed. Bennie Russell, L.D. Eddins, Bo Barbe and James Miles.

 

Drawings for a place on the ballot will take place Monday for all elections.

 

Early Voting will take place Oct. 20 thru Oct. 31.
