Sports Round-up 8/19/14; Rider Octavius Evans receives pre-season recognition

Center Roughrider wide receiver and safety Octavius Evans has been ranked as the #53 football player in the United States graduating Class of 2017 by 247sports.com. Evans is 6-1, 192 pound Sophomore, and racked up an impressive 734 yards, with 67 receptions and 8 touchdowns as a freshman last season. He also had 32 tackles defensively. Other accolades for Evans are being named to the 2013 MaxPreps Freshman All-American First Team and being voted District 20-3A Newcomer of the Year.

 

It's the final controlled scrimmages this week for local high school football. The Center Roughriders will be home at 5 p.m. Thursday night to play Tyler Brook Hill; the Tenaha Tigers go to New Diana Thursday; and the San Augustine Wolves go to Woodville Thursday. Friday's scrimmages have the Joaquin Rams at Colmesneil; the Timpson Bears head to West Rusk; and the Garrison Bulldogs are home to play Groveton.

 

The Logansport Tigers will be at Lakeside Friday night.

 

Center Independent School District would like to invite everyone to Meet the Riders, Monday, Aug. 25, at 7:00 P.M. at Roughrider Stadium. All Middle School and High School Athletic Programs will be recognized as well as the Middle School and High School Spirit Teams and Middle School and High School Bands.
 

By the way, the 3rd Annual Purple Pride Cookout will be hosted by the CHS Cheerleaders next Monday night, Aug. 25 during Meet the Riders. They will be serving meals at the Center Roughrider Stadium Concession Stand from 4:00-6:30 P.M. Each dinner will be $7 and will consist of a Hamburger, chips, dessert, and water. If you'd like to purchase a meal ticket in advance, you can get one from any member of the JV or Varsity Cheerleader Squads and at the front office at Center High School. **The tickets show a serve time of 4:00-5:30. Please note that they will be serving until 6:30 instead.

 

Meet the Rams will be held on Thursday, August 21 at 6:30pm in the Joaquin High School Gym.

 

Meet the Dragons will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Shelbyville gym.

 

Volleyball action scheduled today has the Center Lady Riders in Nacogdoches, playing a tri-match with Gary and Nacogdoches. Center will be in the Marshall Tournament starting Thursday. The Timpson Lady Bears go to Colmesneil tomorrow and are in the Overton Tournament beginning Thursday. By the way, Shelbyville ISD has started competition volleyball this season, and as soon as we can get a schedule, we’ll be including the Lady Dragons’ matches on this report.

 

The Shelbyville I.S.D. has announced that all Shelbyville I.S.D. retirees will be admitted free of charge to home athletic events for the 14-15 school year by presenting a special pass. If you are a Shelbyville I.S.D. retiree and do not receive a pass by mail, come by the administration office or call 598-2641.

Shelbyville I.S.D. announces that Senior Citizens (age 65 or over) who reside in Shelbyville I.S.D. will be admitted free of charge to all Home Athletic Events for the 2014-15 school year, by presenting a Shelbyville I.S.D.
