Elite Football League semi-pro team forming in Center, tryouts tomorrow

If some of you men out there feel you may still have some gas in the tank and have always dreamed of playing adult amateur semi-pro full contact 11-man football, this may be your chance.

The Elite Football League has come to Center. Tryouts began this month, and will continue for the next three Saturdays and is open to any male 18-year of age and older. Joshua Black is a co-owner and coach for the East Texas Colts, based here in Center. He says he and co-owner Colton Thompson started the team to give younger adult men an activity.

Black says the East Texas Colts will play a 10-game schedule starting in February, and go up against teams from Shrevport, Lufkin and Longview. He added they'll play an exhibition benefit game at SFA in October against Lufkin for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Head coach for the Colts is Dwight Preston, and tryouts are at 3 p.m. tomorrow, and Aug. 23 and 30 at the practice field behind Roughrider Stadium.

Black said they would be set-up with all types of agility drills at the tryouts.

Black says there's a $25 non-refundable tryout fee. Just bring your cleats, shorts, gloves, etc.
