ETMC's affiliation with local physicians ceases, doctors begin new chapter

Three local medical doctors will either be moving out of Shelby County or beginning their practice as independent physicians within the next few days.

ETMC in Tyler's decision in June to pull-out of Shelby County and cease affiliation locally becomes effective tomorrow.

Dr. Jane Todd, Dr. Craig McMullen and Dr. Chandra's offices lost their branding with ETMC as the healthcare system felt it did not make economic sense to continue, due in part to reduced reimbursements from commercial insurance and federally funded health programs.

Christy Tompkins, who's served as the clinic manger for all three clinics told us that Dr. McMullen, along with Family Nurse Practioner Cicily Cross Blair will be opening a clinic in Carthage across from ETMC Hospital Friday, and that Dr. Todd would be moving to the building on Hurst Street, that formerly housed Dr. McMullen's practice, and would begin seeing patients again Aug. 25. That location is owned by Dawn Barnes of East Texas Extended Care, who has plans to open a clinic there as well, soon.

Ms. Tompkins also said Dr. Chandra would remain at her office on Hwy. 96 south in Center, and would begin seeing patients Monday.

Affected by ETMC's decision is approximately 20 employees, including physicians and mid-level providers and office personnel.

Ms. Tompkins said that around half of the staff would be going to ETMC facilities in Carthage.
