Center receives lone "distinction" mark from TEA in high school math, other districts recognized

We reported yesterday that all Shelby County schools had received “Met Standard” according to the TEA’s accountability system’s rating, which is the highest designation based primarily on student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, the state’s standardized test, as well as graduation rates and diploma plans for high school campuses and districts.

Schools that receive the Met Standard rating can qualify for up to seven distinctions in various categories. To earn a distinction, schools have to perform at top levels when compared to other schools of similar size and population.

In the Center ISD, the district received one distinction out of 18 possible, that for high school math.

Superintendent Dr. James Hockenberry told us he is especially proud of that “Distinction’. He said Center ISD has an exceptional staff, and the teacher’s diligent pursuit towards greatness is very much appreciated. He added he congratulates all district campuses for “meeting standard”.

Meanwhile, Timpson ISD had 5 out of 19 distinctions, 4 at the high school; Tenaha ISD had 2 of 6; Joaquin ISD with 6 of 19 distinctions, 4 at the high school and 2 at the elementary; Shelbyville with 2 of 6; and Excelsior ISD with 2 of 5 distinctions. The San Augustine ISD had 2 of 12, both at the elementary campus; Martinsville ISD with 4 of 6; and Garrison ISD received 6 of 19 distinctions, including 4 of 6 at the high school.
