Sports Round-up 8/12/14; volleyball gets started, first football scrimmages to be held Friday & Saturday

The high school volleyball season gets underway this week, and there’s action on tap today at the Timpson Lady Bears will host Colmesneil beginning at 4:30. Also, the Center Lady Riders will start their volleyball season Wednesday at home against Winona at 4:30 p.m.

 

Area football teams will have the opportunity to hit someone other than a teammate later this week when the first controlled scrimmages take place. On Friday, Center is home to take on Palestine; Shelbyville goes to Deweyville; Tenaha’s home to scrimmage Harleton; and Timpson goes to Groveton. On Saturday, Joaquin’s home to take on Huntington at 9 a.m., San Augustine will be home to scrimmage Colmesneil at 6 p.m.; and Garrison has Arp coming to town Saturday. The regular season will kick-off Aug. 29. A programming note, “Don Wall’s Shelby County Coaches Show” will begin two weeks from tonight on Q-100, KQBB.

 

Here’s a rundown of the annual ‘Meet the Team” events coming up.  Meet the Bears will be held on Thursday, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. at Bear Stadium.

 

Meet the Wolves is being held in the San Augustine High School Gym starting at 6:30 pm on Friday, August 15.

 

Meet the Rams will be held on Thursday, August 21 at 6:30pm in the Joaquin High School Gym.

 

Meet the Riders will be held on Monday, Aug. 25 at Roughrider Stadium.

 

Meet the Dragons will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Shelbyville gym.
