Roughriders compete in Texas Basketball Championships

Young men who are current and upcoming members of the Center High School Roughrider basketball team just wrapped up play in the Texas Basketball Championships.

Center basketball head coach Hiram Harrison says it's the first year Center has played in the summer league, and unlike AAU ball, the young men play with their own teammates, not from other high schools. He says the Texas Basketball Championships is not connected with the UIL, and competition is broken down into two divisions--big school and small school, or Division II, which is where Center played.

After participating in two state qualifying tournaments, Center beat Tatum, June 27, to make the championships in Grapevine last weekend.

They took part in pool play last Friday and Saturday, defeating Martins Mill, 58-56, Grady, 54-46, and losing to Brock, 66-53 on Saturday.

On Sunday, they beat Tatum, 56-51, and then won the "red bracket" championship game against Bangs, 52-20.

Coach Harrison said it was great experience for the boys to play together over the summer.
