At their meeting last week, the Deep East Texas Council of Governments Board approved seven grants worth over $130,000 for recycling and hazardous household waste collection.
Among the recipients is the City of Timpson, which will receive $22,210 for collection carts.
It was also recommended by the DETCOG Board that the City of Center receive $20,000 for a vehicle for its recycling program.
Funding for those grants is now dependent on their review and final approval by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
In other business, DETCOG Executive Director, Walter Diggles, announced the agency’s Hurricane Ike Recovery Program had been approved by the Texas General Land Office to construct twenty seven homes. The initial batch of homes is scattered through nine of DETCOG’s twelve counties.
The next DETCOG board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, in Trinity County.
