San Augustine County Commissioners hear plans on construction of firewall at county jail, no action taken

At Tuesday’s meeting San Augustine County Commissioners viewed plans for a firewall to be constructed at the San Augustine County Law Enforcement Center, as presented by Curtis Architecture.

It’s reported the firewall is needed in the storage area between the business section and detention and correctional area of the building.

Curtis Architecture advises the wall would put the facility in occupancy compliance with the state. However, before action is taken on the firewall, the court asked the architect to submit the proposal to the State Fire Marshal and to the State Jail Commission for approval.

Commissioners are also seeking some clarification on whether County Road 4715 is a public or private road. The question surfaced with Sam Colotta came before the court to voice road concerns. He noted Commissioner Rodney Ainsworth referred to the road as being private, although being maintained by the county in the past. Judge Johnson said the county attorney would need to make a ruling before any action is taken.

Also, San Augustine City Manager Bruce Milstead advised the city-owned recycle trailer will be placed on the west side of the courthouse once a week. There are also plans to place the trailer in Broaddus once a week.
