Concealed handgun owner shoots self accidentally inside Carthage convenience store

Apparently a man with a concealed gun permit accidentally shot himself last Friday afternoon inside a Carthage convenience store.

The Panola Watchman reports, 37-year old Jason Paul Bryant of Orange entered the Gateway Travel Plaza on Hwy. 59 south just after 4 p.m., pulled his shorts up and accidentally shot himself in the leg.

The report says he walked six feet in the door; something caught the trigger and gun discharged into his left.

It’s reported a woman in the store took a belt and applied a tourniquet to the man’s leg and was applying pressure to the wound.

The paper is saying no charges were filed against Bryant for the negligent discharge.

He was taken to ETMC Carthage for treatment. There was no word on his condition.

Carthage Chief of Police Jim Vanover said the accident could have been prevented if the man had the gun in a holster.
