Jobless numbers remain steady in June

The Texas Workforce Commission released the June unemployment numbers and local counties have seen little change in the past month.

In Shelby County, unemployment is at 5.7 percent, up slightly from 5.3 in May. However, that beats the 7.1 percent from this time a year ago. The state-wide rate for June is 5.1 percent, compared to 6.1 percent nationwide.

San Augustine County’s June unemployment is up to 7.8 percent from 7.6 percent last month. That’s still better than the 10.4 percent in June of last year.

Neighboring county June unemployment saw 11 percent in Sabine County, 5.8 in Nacogdoches County, and 4.2 in Panola County.
