Broaddus medical clinic to re-open soon, Wendel says it was community effort

The San Augustine County Commissioners' Court voted at this week's meeting to lease the clinic building in Broaddus to Family Nurse Practioner Debra Wendel, who will be opening the facility on a part-time basis.

Ms. Wendel said the Wendel Community Clinic will hopefully fill a void left by the closure of the previous medical practice a year ago.

As a San Augustine County native, and former employee of the clinic, Ms. Wendel said it's become a community effort to re-open the facility. She added the city council in Broaddus, along with the community and San Augustine County have all pulled together to see this project take shape.

San Augustine County Judge Samye Johnson tells us she's excited for the Broaddus area to have primary medical care at home again.

The Wendel Community Clinic is located next to the Broaddus Community Center on FM 2558. Ms. Wendel said she’s hoping to be open within the next month or so, and that the clinic will probably be open a couple of evenings during the week, and about two Saturdays a month.

She added she'll continue to see patients at Cline Family Medicine in Center.

Joining Ms. Wendel at the clinic will be her daughter Hannah who is an LVN and Tina Wendel Morris who is an RN.
