Center native's family among Forbes' wealthiest

A Center native's family has been ranked by Forbes in the Top 10 on the magazine's list of the nation's wealthiest dynasties.

When Dan Duncan, who grew up in Center, passed away in 2010, his fortune passed in equal amounts to his four children, each with a net worth of $6.3 billion, which put them at No. 215 on Forbes' list of individual billionaires. There combined worth this month, according to Forbes is $25.4 billion.

The magazine says Dan Duncan parlayed $10,000 and a truck into a multi-billion Enterprise Products pipeline empire. Duncan passed away at age 77, and donated hundreds of millions of dollars, especially to institutions in the Texas Medical Center.

His family is the only Houston family in Forbes' Top 10 dynasties list.

Topping the Forbes list released Tuesday was the Walton family, heirs to brothers Sam and James Walton, co-founds of Wal-Mart Stores.

The list is scheduled for publication in the financial magazine's July 21 edition.
