The Center 14-year old Dixie League All Stars defeated Henderson, 12-3 last night, and will play Huntington for the championship at 5:30 this afternoon at Roughrider Field. Center is undefeated in the tournament, while Huntington’s only loss was to Center Tuesday in the double-elimination format. Advancement to the Dixie World Series in Bossier City next month is on the line.


Teams from Center, San Augustine and Joaquin will begin play Saturday in the 10-year old AAA South Regional Tournament and the 12-year old Major Tight Base Tournaments, also taking place in Center. The District 9-year old and 10-year old tournament will also start play here this weekend.


A number of Shelby County 4-Her's will be competing next week in the State 4H Shoot in San Antonio. Among the participants are Wade Baty, Jaxon Brittain, Corey Denney, Lance Holloway, Logan Holloway, Nicholas Lambert, Jacob Locke, Jared Richards, Kristoffer Risinger, Seth Shamblin, and Konner Windham. The competition is being held at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio. Best of Luck!


It’s not to late to get signed up for the What-a-Melon Crawl 5K Run and Walk to be held Saturday morning in Center at 7 a.m. You need to contact Anna Lee at Shelby Savings Bank in Center, or show up Saturday morning prior to the event.


The Great East Texas Outdoor Fest Banquet will be held Friday, July 11, at the former Bistro building on the square in Hemphill. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $45 each or $75 for couples. The event will include a steak dinner, live music, silent auction and door prizes. Tickets are available at the door, or by calling Roger Gay at 409-625-1101.


There will be a meeting of the Shelby County Youth Football League at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 24 at Center's Pizzeria. A representative from each town will need to be in attendance.
