Mansfield Police officer suspended without pay for playing softball while on duty

A Mansfield, Louisiana police officer has been suspended 29-days without pay after he was caught participating in a softball game while on duty.

Mansfield Police Chief Gary Hobbs said in a press release that Jercarlous Colbert’s suspension is for “conduct unbecoming an officer."

Colbert’s supervisor observed him playing softball when he was supposed to be on patrol.

Colbert has been with the Mansfield PD since Feb. 2012, and was formerly employed with the Shreveport Police Department but resigned after he was arrested in 2011 for solicitation of prostitution.

The suspension is the maximum allowed without action by the Mansfield Board of Aldermen.
