Center 14-year old All-Stars play tonight at Roughrider Field, Shelbyville's Sparks playing in national championship

In sports,

The Center 14-year old All-Stars will play at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Roughrider Field in the Dixie Boys' 14-year old state tournament. A win tonight and they advance to the state semi final Wednesday night. Center is undefeated in the tournament, and would have to lose twice to be eliminated. The tournament championship game is Thursday night in Center. The tournament winner goes the Dixie Boys' World Series in Bossier City in August.

Center Youth Baseball President, Jason Mitchell tells us all other Center all-star teams have already been eliminated from play in the past weekend's tournament action. He says there will be teams from Center playing this Saturday in the 10-year old AAA South Regional Tournament and the 12-year old Major Tight Base Tournaments, also taking place in Center. The District 9-year old and 10-year old tournament is also being played here this weekend.

A Shelbyville Lady Dragon Softball standout is playing on team from Keller (in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex) that has recently qualified for the The ASA 18U National Championship in Montgomery, Alabama later this month. Caleigh Sparks, the daughter of Shad and Sandy Parks of Shelbyville, is a senior this coming school year, and is a member of Texas Glory Adkins-Barrera. Caleigh says it is such an honor to have the opportunity to play in the national championship, and have a lifelong dream come true. She also has several colleges interested in her talent after high school. Caleigh needs help to defray the costs of the tournament for travel and lodging expenses. Any donations from companies or individuals would be appreciated. If you'd like to help Caleigh out, call her at 936-590-8117 or Shad or Sandy Sparks at 936-590-9230.
