Suspect nabbed in Joaquin business burglary, investigation continues

Shelby County Sheriff's Department Investigators made an arrest last week in the recent burglary of Worsham's Grocery in Joaquin.

Chief Deputy Shad Sparks says 35-year old Roy Denver Byrd, Jr. of Joaquin was arrested last Thursday and charged with Burglary of a Building, which is a State Jail Felony.

Chief Sparks said Investigators DJ Dickerson and Kevin Windham found Byrd in possession of cigarettes, in addition to a block of ham and cheese, stolen from the store after it had closed for the day, June 27.

Investigators report they made contact with several witnesses that said they received cigarettes, as well as smokeless tobacco from the suspect. The sheriff’s office added Constable Pct. 3 Billy Hearnsberger assisted in the investigation.

Byrd was arraigned last Friday by Justice of the Peace Pct. 1, Maxie Eaves, who set bond at $8,000. Chief Sparks said the case is still being investigated with other suspects of interest.
