25th annual What-A-Melon Festival this week in Center

The 25th annual What-A-Melon Festival sponsored by the Center Rotary Club will be held this Thursday through Saturday in downtown Center.

 

Among the events Thursday as gates open at 5 p.m. will be the carnival, along with vendor booths and gospel music, as featured artist performers include Mt. Zion Choir, First Baptist Church, Charles Delaney, First Christian Church and Principle de Paz Youth Band.

 

The festival opens at 3 p.m. Friday as local talent will perform under the big tent, along with the pet show, and the Darrin Morris Band to follow.

 

Saturday’s schedule includes the What-A-Melon Crawl, a car show, and a number of contests, including the seed spitting and speed eating, along with the What-A-Melon weigh-in, What-A-Melon Pageant and the evening will close with Johnson’s Lost Crows performing.

 

WHAT-A-MELON t-shirts are available at the Chamber! Adult sizes are $15, Children's sizes and caps are $10.
