Officers 'no-billed' by grand jury in May deadly shooting incident

A Shelby County Grand Jury no-billed two law enforcement officers earlier this week for the shooting death of a Shelbyville man.

Texas DPS Trooper Dustin Ramos and Center Police Officer Dwayne Gordon will not be charged in the incident where 38-year old Jonathan Swindle was killed in Lout Town, after he struck Trooper Mills with the vehicle he was driving.

The shooting followed a multi-agency chase on State Hwy. 87 south of Shelbyville in May.

Shelby County District Attorney Kenneth Florence said after Texas Ranger Brian Brazil completed his investigation and facts were presented, witness statements and autopsy reports were given, and several dash cam videos were viewed by the grand jury, there was no evidence there saying the officers acted outside their law enforcement rights.

Florence said some 20 shots were fired at Swindle by the officers, with five actual striking him.

The autopsy result also showed that Swindle had a high amount of PCP in his system at the time of the incident.
